Railroad Solutions
L.B. Foster, the leader in Friction Management, boosts railroad operations with innovative solutions that optimize costs, technology, and efficiency.
TOP-OF-RAIL FRICTION MODIFIERS (TOR)
TOR equipment controls friction at an intermediate level on the railhead to reduce wear and corrugation, lessen noise, and limit the initiation of rolling contact fatigue. It also reduces lateral and vertical forces.

GAUGE-FACE LUBRICATOR (GF)
Targeted lubrication reduces friction between the wheel flange and the gauge face of the rail; material is applied along the gauge face to reduce friction between it and the wheel flange.

WHEEL IMPACT LOAD DETECTOR (WILD)
The WILD system is an electronic device that measures defects in train wheels (flat spots). It accurately identifies defective wheels before they damage the rail. Loads exceeding user-defined limits are identified by car and axle position in the train.

INSULATED RAIL JOINTS (IRJ)
Prevent electrical current from flowing between the ends of adjacent rails. In industries connected to the railroad, they are used to delimit track-circuit blocks.

NEW AND RELAY RAIL
L.B. Foster supplies rail from several leading U.S. mills, typically in 39-ft, 40-ft, 78-ft, and 80-ft lengths. We also offer continuous welded rail (CWR).

Rockfall Monitoring is a revolutionary system using LiDAR technology to detect rocks and hazardous obstacles on or near the track and can transmit a remote alert.
